Definition & Objectives
Article 1
The Portuguese Journal of Intensive Care is
the official scientific publication of the
Portuguese Society of Intensive Care
Article 2
The Portuguese Journal of Intensive Care is
autonomous technically, administratively and
legally in accord with the Laws of Publication
Article 3
The Portuguese Journal of Intensive Care is
the property of the Portuguese Society of
Intensive Care. The head office of the society
also serves as the head office of the journal
Article 4
The Portuguese Journal of Intensive Care has
the following aims:
- The publication of scientific works
concerning Intensive Care
- To contribute to the training of all
professionals involved in the area of
Intensive Care
Chapter II
Administrative bodies of the Journal
Article 5
The Portuguese Journal of Intensive Care has
the following administrative bodies/committees
- Management
- Administrative
- Scientific
The mandates of the administrative and
scientific committees are terminated when the
mandate of the management committee of the
Portuguese Journal of Intensive Care terminates
Article 6
The management committee consists of the
editor and 2 assistant editors of the journal
Article 7
The editor of the Portuguese Journal of
Intensive Care, a member of the Portuguese
Society of Intensive Care, is nominated by the
management committee of the Portuguese Society of
Intensive Care for a period of 3 years, with the
right to be re-elected for a further 3 years.
Article 8
The functions of the editor of the Portuguese
Journal of Intensive Care are:
- To obtain, select & co-ordinate all
the scientific information destined for
the journal
- To approve the contents of each edition
of the journal
- To preside over the Management committee
- To preside over the Administrative
committee
- To preside over the Scientific committee
- To fulfil the legal functions related to
this type of published periodical
Article 9
The associated editors of the Portuguese
Journal of Intensive Care are members of the
Portuguese Society of Intensive Care, nominated
by the editor of the journal & subsequently
approved by the management committee of the
journal of the Portuguese Society of Intensive
Care
Article 10
The functions of the assistant editors of the
Portuguese Journal of Intensive Care are:
- To substitute the editor when not
available
- To cooperate with the editor of the
Journal in selecting the members of the
administrative & scientific
committees
- Organize the appreciation & selection
of scientific works submitted
- Propose to the editor the experts to be
nominated for the revision &
appreciation of submitted works
- Propose to the editor the composition of
each edition
Article 11
The administrative body is constituted by
members of Portuguese society of Intensive Care,
nominated by the Management of the Portuguese
Journal of Intensive Care, after opinion of the
Management of Portuguese Society of Intensive
Care.
Article 12
The functions of the administrative body of
the Portuguese Journal of Intensive Care are:
- To co-operate with the management in the
organization of the journal
- To fulfil the functions of article
revision and appreciation when solicited
- To propose to the Management committee
publicity, information pamphlets or
reports when considered necessary
- Evaluate retrospectively each published
edition of the journal in order to
improve its quality
Article 13
The Scientific body is constituted of Doctors,
Nurses and members of other relevant professional
groups integrated by statute into the Portuguese
Society of Intensive Care
They are nominated by the Management committee of
the Portuguese Journal of Intensive Care. It
appears favorable to the management of the
Portuguese society of Intensive Care to integrate
different professional groups with the same
interest in serving the scientific community
An annual meeting will be held, or whenever one
is called by the editor of the Portuguese Journal
of Intensive Care
Article 14
The functions of the members of the Scientific
Council of the Portuguese Journal of Intensive
Care are:
- To guarantee the scientific quality of
the journal
- To help the journal become recognized
- From their own initiative or after being
called upon by the editor, scientific
opinion concerning the studies to be
published
- Evaluate the quality of each edition
produced
Chapter III
General Rules
Article 15
During the first 15 days of each year the
management committee of the Portuguese Journal of
Intensive Care must produce a budget showing the
projected annual expenses. The budget must be
submitted for approval by the Management
committee of the Portuguese Society of Intensive
Care
The accounts of the previous year must also be
presented to the Portuguese Society of Intensive
Care
Article 16
The income of the Portuguese Journal of
Intensive Care consists of:
- Signed receipts, journal and separate
sales
- Money received from publicity
- Budget donations from the Portuguese
Society of Intensive Care
- Donations from other entities individual,
collective, public or private
Article 17
The current expenses of the journal are those
incurred in its publication
Article 18
The accounts of the Portuguese Journal of
Intensive Care are, according to the relevant
legislation, integrated into the accounts of the
Portuguese Society of Intensive Care
