PAST MANAGEMENT OF PSIC - 1974/1999

HISTORIC

After the 1st World Congress on Intensive Care (June 1974 - London) has been created in Portugal a group to promote the creation of the Portuguese Society of Intensive Care.
This group promoted several meetings and it had been created a Elected Commission (Solange Quintal; Maria Helena Rodrigues, Jorge Tuna, Tobias Amarante, Silva Araújo, Sales Luís, Sá Pereira). New members had been joined; had been elaborated and approved the Statutes and the Portuguese Society of Intensive Care has been officially constituted at February, 13, 1978, at 1st. Cartório Notarial de Lisboa, in the presence of: Prof. Armando Octávio Carvalho Sales Luís, Dr. Luís António Matos Sá Pereira, Dr. Henrique Pereira Villaret, Drª. Maria Céu Matos Chambel Fonseca and Enfª. Antónia Maria Palma Curado.

At March, 10, 1978 in a General Ordinary Assembly has been elected the new Management, in function since August, 1997, constituted as follow:

Program of the candidates for the PSIC 1997/1999
The doctors and nurses, who make up the list of candidates, have in common the fact that they have all dedicated a significant portion of their lives to the practice of Intensive Care.They understand that they have a mission to impart all relevant information, which will dynamize the investigation and practice of Intensive Care Medicine. From this premise the following is proposed:
- Reorganization of the society administration
- The creation of a "Provisional Seat"
- Modernization of the statutes
- The creation of regional nuclei
- The accompaniment of the introduction of Intensive Care as a medical subspecialty
- The creation of the nursing speciality of Intensive Care
- Promotion of post-graduate training courses
- Promotion of training periods in foreign referral facilities
- Communication with other National and International Scientific Societies
- Hold annual meetings
- Fulfill the tradition of a triennal congress
- Organize meetings of consensus
- Support scientific meetings
- Propose Portugal as a candidate venue for the European Congress of Intensive Care
- Promote the journal "Medicina Intensiva"
- Restart the publishing of the PSIC Bulletin
- Use the new computer tecnologies
