FOREWORD
The Portuguese Society of Intensive Care will hold its VIIth National Intensive Care Congress from the 5th to the 7th of November 1998.

  We hope that this meeting will occupy a priviliged position as a forum for the exchange of opinions & experiences between all who work or maintain an interest in Intensive Care.

  It will certainly be, for many of us, a time of reaquaintance and hopefully of new friendships.

  A Scientific Comission has tried to arrange a varied programme which covers the most important & topical issues of our speciality. We have the pleasure to have managed to gather together a group of speakers, both National & International, whose prestige & experience will certainly contribute to the success of the meeting.

  Simultaneously, the IIIrd Iberian Reunion of Intensive Care & the 2nd Italian-Portuguese-Spanish Clinical Meeting concerning Non-Invasive Ventilatory Techniques will take place, allowing us to strengthen the scientific and personal links with our Spanish & Italian colleagues.

  Finally, the oral presentations of investigative studies, which have to be submitted by 31st July, carefully reviewed & selected by a group of experts, will certainly help bring a dynamic input to the quality of the work which will take place amongst us.
